The first step is to make sure all students in the classroom understand the basics of using a digital camera. The next step is to write a story that will be shared with elementary students in elementary schools in our school district. After writing a story, students take digital photographs that will be used in the book. Once the photographs are imported into the computer, the students edit them using photo editing tools on various levels. Students then can create a Word Document storybook, a PowerPoint storybook with added media features such as sound or music, or they can even create a DVD of their storybook using a Macintosh program.

The use of the digital photographs bring the story to life. With more cameras it would be possible to take photos of the community and create history storybooks about the community.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
This can be used in any curriculum area as a finalizing project. It can be adapted to all subjects to show the grasping of the concepts learned.
Follow-Up
My students will then present them to the elementary schools. This activity will focus on their communication skills.
