Background: The students should have previous experience with alphabet books.

1. Explain to the children that, because they have learned so much about letter sounds and alphabet books, they are going to be able to create their own.

2. Assign each student (or pairs, or kindergartner with an older "book buddy", if needed) a letter

3. Allow the students to move about the room and find an object that begins with the assigned letter.

4. Take each student's picture with the object.

5. Using iPhoto or similar program, download the pictures (or just print and handwrite text. Write the caption, " {letter} ______ found an ______" Examples: Aa John found an apple. Bb Jane found a ball."

6. Keep this book as a resource for your students in an accessible spot.
Follow-Up
Students can refer to the book when trying to isolate letter sounds in writing.
Students can refer to the book to spell specific words.
Students can use the book as a model texts when ready to write their own patterned books.
