Student get started by choosing an emotion they wish to express. They must look up the definition of this word in the dictionary and find synonyms for it in a thesaurus. Students must then create drawings, or find images that express this emotion. Students will take portraits of themselves with a digital camera. Their facial expression must convey the emotion they chose. Students can alter their digital portrait, or print it as is. Students must repeat the digital image at least three times on the collage. Students are told that the collage should have at least three layers. The first should be a balanced background of images, photos, and text that express the emotion. The second layer a light wash in a color that expresses the emotion, and the third layer will be added paint or detail.
