Getting to know me!

First real day of class take the students pictures with a digital camera. You can use them to make seating charts and learn the kids names. It is especially useful if you have over 350 students (the entire 5th and 6th grade). Getting to know each other can be done with PowerPoint presentations. I pass out a suggested Table of Contents and and teach the basic mechanics slide by slide. We look up facts and pictures on the internet and learn how to insert them, They also bring in snapshots to scan and add to their presentation. When they are finished, we watch them on the "big screen" using the projection unit. We all learn about each other. We copy their PowerPoints on a jump drive and then share it with the classroom teacher to use during open house and conferences. We also print a copy to put in their portfolio to help the teacher next year learn a little bit about them, too!
