TLW take a digital photo of specified object and write descriptive words to give clues about it.

1. Review the parts of the Alphasmart keyboard like file keys, send key, clear file
2. Give each child an Alphasmart.
3. Review about descriptive words that actual show descriptions (icky vs. bitter)
4. Now open File 1 and type in your first and last name.
5. Hand out paper that has the file names and explain about typing in the words for each object:
a. File 2: Looks like,
b. File 3 Smells like,
c. File 4: Feels like,
d. File 5: Sounds like:
6. Think about the object that you want to observe in the Habitat
7. Go to the Habitat and find your desired object.
8. Sit or stand by it and look at your object
9. Press File Number to open file and then type in the descriptive words
10. Complete typing files then wait for turn to use the digital camera and take photo of
11. the object.
12. Open Kidspiration template for Habitat.
13. Plug Alphasmart in the computer using the USB cable.
14. Highlight the text in the desired box.
15. Press send.
16. Move to next box and repeat process. Remember to press Command button and file number at the same time to move to next file.
17. Click on printer to print document.
18. Unplug Alphasmart from computer and press File number and then press clear file to erase your files.
19. Teacher will download digital photos and print to go along with clues. (Parent volunteer keeps track of photo number as student takes own photo.)

This is a multiple intelligence project incorporating the areas of visual, spacial, verbal, linguistic and interpersonal areas. This allows students of different ability levels to participate in the project.

Extensions

 Create ABC booklet could be written about the objects seen in the Habitat.
 Take Alphasmart on field trip and record observations there.
 Students could take and input own photos.
 Create PowerPoint slide show using photos and information
 Create PowerPoint tour of garden highlighting the objects found
Follow-Up
This would also be great to have a copy of in their Sicence notebooks to refer back to if they wanted to incorporate it during science fair or plant it in their own garden.


Students will produce a document to go in their Portfolio.
 The teacher will be able to use observation during the lesson to check for comprehension and skills.
 The teacher would also be listening to the student as they talk about their picture –like show and tell.
 By walking around and monitoring during lesson completion, the teacher could make notes on those students that need extra help with technology or the lesson focus.
