WE INSPIRE GREATNESS: PASS IT ON!

Student with multiple disabilities will learn comprehension skills using a comprehension quilt. Stories are read to students that are non-readers daily and pictures are drawn on the comprehension quilt without using words and students remember details of their own story when their picture frame is selected to tell to the class or other visitors. The picture that is drawn maybe a line or a circle but the artist is able to tell a complete story from beginning to end. He can remember a story if it is a year later. The student learns how to stand in front of a group and give an oral report without using words and is very confident. The students that are able to read use their pictures and go into greater detail in front of an audience and are more self confident because of their non-reading peers. The digital camera/recorder will allow students to record each other using their comprehension skills and also measure the growth in comprehension from when the student began. It will also allow students to see how much they are comprehending without realizing it. We will also partnership with the nearby elementary school (special education class) in intergrating this lesson and having my students read a story to INSPIRE GREATNESS in them and also record them using their comprehension quilt so they will PASS IT ON.
