Students would use the Digital Cameras to photograph and document the neighborhood, people that have committed crimes the victims and affects. They would use the Digital Recorders to interview residents, students and teachers about the causes and affects of crime. They would use the tool Factory Painter to manipulate photos to show the perspective they want viewers to see. They would use the Tool Factory Database to create an organized database to categorize the pictures until they are ready to create their presentation for a school assembly.
This project will essentially be student directed. The Law Studies class, under the direction of the classroom teacher and with approval of the administration, will work together to decide the direction and scope of the project. Throughout the year students will gather the photos and interviews then categorize and compile the data. The final goal will be to present this to their peers, parents and faculty to personalize the events of the year and how these acts negatively impact them now and in the future. Documenting local events and people they know may stir a spirit of renewal and change in the neighborhood and school.
During the school year the Olympus Digital Cameras will also be used by students in their core academic classes, as teachers will be checking them out to use in their classrooms to enhance their daily lessons in all subject areas. The Tool Factory Software will also be utilized daily by students because it will be installed in the computer labs where everyone will have access to it.
