School: Pine Haven Elementary School, Bauxite, AR
Planned By: Kim Hall
Original Author: Kim Hall, Bauxite
Objective: To help students use environmental print.
To help students correlate matching letters

Materials: 28 pages of laminated card stock
Markers
Tape
Laminator
Book Binder

Preparation: Make a cover for your book with the title "Eating your way through the Alphabet". Label each page with a letter A-Z. ( I don't do back to back because it is easier for pre-k to see one page at a time)You will have one page left over to be used as the back of the book. I laminate each page and have it bound together as a book. I send a note home to ask parents to save candy wrappers and send them to school with their child.

Instruction: Have children come to the carpet/circle time and show them the book. Let the children bring their candy wrappers to you and let them help you find the correct page for their wrapper. I tape the wrapper to the page so at the end of the year I can remove the wrappers and still have the book to do again the next year. I will do this on the carpet as a whole group for about a week. We will look at the book together and talk about matching letters. I will put the class book in the library for the students to enjoy during center time. I also let the students know that we only need ONE of each type of candy wrapper. EX. If not you will have 12 wrappers of Air Head and run out of room.
