The purpose of this lesson is to have the students take a look at their classmates in a positive way. Often children, as well as adults, single out the flaws of the people around them. It seems easier to point out the negatives rather than the positive qualities of classmates and friends. Through the use of technology, the students will create a positive poster about their classmates. The following lesson is geared towards students in fifth through eighth grades. It can certainly be adjusted and used with younger students.
After completing lessons on using a digital camera, the students will be given an opportunity to put their learning into practice. Each student will pick the name of one of their classmates from a basket. After picking the name, the students will use a digital camera take a photograph of the person they selected. Once the picture has been taken, the students will download the photograph onto the computer. The teacher will instruct the students to use the Microsoft Word program to create their Most Wanted poster. Students will be use the picture of their classmate and various Word functions, such as clip art and Word art to create the poster. The teacher will stress to the students that the poster is to reflect their classmate in a positive light. Students can use materials found on the Internet as long as they give credit where credit is due when using other peoples’ materials.
When the posters have been completed and viewed by the teacher, the students will print their finished product. The Most Wanted posters will be displayed around the computer lab to reinforce that we are all unique and have many special qualities. |
