LESSON TITLE: Haikus for all Seasons!

SUBJECT AREA: Language Arts

GRADE LEVEL: 7th

LESSON SUMMARY:

This is actually series of lessons that will go on throughout the school year. During each season, students will venture outside and take notes on what they observe through their five senses. They will also use the Olympus D-545 digital cameras to capture pictures that they feel best represent the current season. When they return to the classroom, they will write one to three haikus to represent the season and the pictures they have taken. After they've written haikus for summer, fall, winter, and spring, they will create a calendar using the Tool Factory Workshop software. This calendar will combine their original haikus with the pictures they have taken to make a calendar for the next school year.

This set of lessons will not only help with mastery of recognizing, using, and interpreting imagery, but it will also create a usable, enjoyable product for each student to share with family.
