Students will view a powerpoint presentation on the artist Romare Bearden, and the Harlem Renaissance. Students will come to know that this artist was from Charlotte, NC, which is very close to where we are in Monroe.

Students will take at least ten pictures of their communities. Students may enhance the images or print them as they are. Students will create "painted paper" and find images and fields of color such as sky, grass, skin tones, etc. in magazines. Students will save this "collection".

Students will create three to four sketches of what their collage will look like. When approved students will create thier collage using photos, painted paper, and fields of color from magazines on 18X 24 " paper.

Students should be reminded of positive and negative space, balance, and craftsmanship.
