Day 1-
Read- The Letters are Lost
The teacher will group students into pairs or groups of three and give each group 2-3 letters of the alphabet to work with. Each group will go out with a parent helper or assistant to find items to start with "their letters."
(The teacher or instructional technologist will print the pictures and load them to student computers.)

Day 2 and 3-
The teacher gathers the students to show the pictures that were taken. As a class they will do interactive writing to write the words for the pictures.

Day 4-
Armed with clipart letters and the pages for the book, the students will each create a page for their own "Letters are Found" alphabet books.
Comments
This lesson could easily be adapted for second and third graders where they do their own writing. They could add rhyming or other "twist" to the text of the book.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
For upper grades, adapt the ABC to science words, or social studies words.
