Read several different Doreen Cronin books to you students. I suggest Click Clack Moo, Giggle Giggle Quack, Duck for President, Dooby Dooby Moo, and Click Clack Quackity Quack. Once I read the stories, students selected a character they wanted to portray. They wrote approximately 7 sentences that related somehow to one of the stories. They had to be creative and write what they would have said, or done if they were that character. Once they had their monologues written, I conferenced with them. Each student then typed up their sentences in Microsoft Word. After that the students practiced reading their monologues over and over again so that they were fluent. Finally, students read their finished product in to a microphone on the computer where I used Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) to create podcasts of the children reading their stories. You will need to download the software from the site listed above in order to create the podcasts. Save each file by individual students. The site and download are free. |
