After introducing the rules at the beginning of the year, have the students brainstorm what each one looks like (for example, keeping your hands to yourself may look like putting your hands in your lap when sitting on the floor or having "lips and hips" when in line). Take pictures (up close is best) of children showing the correct behavior.
Have students generate ideas for examples of non-compliance, and take pictures of that. Obviously, you need to use wise judgement and help the children fake poses that are safe.
Under each rule, display the corresponding pictures labeled yes or no. You can add the no symbol (red crossed circle) over the appropriate pictures as well.
Depending on the age of your students, you can do this all at once or break it up over time (perhaps one rule a day, or even 1/2 a rule (the yeses or nos). In kindergarten, this builds high frequency word vocabulary and provides visual reminders for the rules, but it can be used for comprehension in a variety of classrooms. |
