Grades 6 through 8
School: Daniel Webster Middle School, Waukegan, IL
Planned By: Mary Mlinar-Stephens
Original Author: Robin Van Der Linda Pat D'Alessandro, Chatham
Students will create a digital storytelling project using photos of landmarks in their town. Students will take pictures of historical landmarks, important buildings, and statues, or other interesting landmarks. Using these photos, students will write a descriptive writing piece about their photo. Students will then put together a Chatham Photo Essay Journal for the school web site using Multimedia Lab V. They will record a reading of their written pieces so students will see the pictures and listen to the descriptions. We will also add a photo journalism section to the middle school newspaper featuring local activities. Students will be encouraged to take photos at school and community events and then write articles. In addition to the pieces on the web site and in the newspaper, every student will have his/her own piece to include in the sixth grade year-end anthology of cross-curriculum writing.
