TTW introduce/review habitats by asking the students to brainstorm for words you use instead of home. As the students begin to brainstorm, TTW chart responses on the board. TTW than introduce and explain vocabulary related to the lesson such as habitat, natural, man-made, food chain. TTW then show the students some pictures of different homes that people live in. From there, TTW ask for examples of places where an animal may live. Students will be allowed time to draw a picture of an animal in its habitat. TTW ask if the habitat is a natural habitat or a man-made habitat. As students respond, the teacher will have them to defend their answers and reasons. TTW tell the students that they are about to take a field trip around the school campus to see if they can find animals or insects in a habitat. When an animal or insect is found they will quietly take a picture of it. When students return to class, they will begin writing about what they saw. As some are writing, the teacher will call small groups of students to the computer to begin uploading the photographs onto the school server into a file called Mrs. Latimore's Class Habitat Photos. Upon uploading all photos the students will begin creating a habitat powerpoint to share with the rest of the class. Students will also use photos to create a digital food chain. (Ongoing for 3-5 days) |

Over the years past, I have taught my students how to use powerpoint to make presentations of their work. I want to step it up and create more interest in powerpoint presentations and the use of digital cameras. |
Follow-Up |
Take a field trip to the Audubon Zoo and the Aquarium of Americas in New Orleans and take pictures of the animals in their habitats. Compare and contrast the pictures using Inspirations. |
