Sorting In PreK

Students spend time familiarizing themselves with the SmartBoard that is located int he media for all grades, pre k to 5, to use. A template has been created where a circle, triangle and square are shown in different colors and sizes. The students are told that they will be participating in an open sort where they get to make the rules. The first child chooses to start a group of triangles. The teacher will faciliate a discussion about the groupings made by various students. At the end, each student will have had a chance to place a shape in a group using the Smart Board. This activity can be printed for each child and labels can be written to incorporate language into the math lesson.
