E-List

Objectives:
1. Practice weekly spelling list
2. Practice keyboarding skills
3. Use spellcheck correctly

This seems like a simple assignment, but it was a huge hit this year. I simply assign the students to email their spelling list to me. It is important that it was due on the same day every week. It was also always an assignment. This gave the 5th graders an option of doing it early and planning of time. Another unpredicted benefit; they had the opportunity to use spell check and double check the spelling they had typed in. If there was a student that didn't have a computer at home, I tried to give them time on the class computers, or just write the list (not as fun though). I also banned "chatspeak". If they wanted to write a little message with the list, they had to use English.
