Mr. Meadows' classroom has been broken into!
The students will notice crime scene tape around various parts of the classroom when they arrive. They will find a white powdery substance on the teachers desk. Small deposits of sand and soil will be located on the carpet. Further investigation will lead the junior csi to tire treads parked near one of the outside doors.
The students, in groups of 4-6, will collect and document all evidence. Each group will be responsible for photo documentation, correct labeling, and evidence containers. They will also create mini-databases for each type of substance, soil, and tire tread.
Once all evidence is collected and documented, the students will use presentation software to report their findings. After all presentations, the culprit will be revealed.
This unit will provide an introduction into all of the Georgia Performance Standards for 8th grade physical science. Follow-up units will expand these concepts further. |
