Students will review statistics about the increasing Hispanic population and how they have become the largest minority group. Students will complete a webquest on important Hispanics in America. Students will discuss what increases they have noticed in Spanish language. Students will be given a checklist of items (Realia) to find in their homes, stores, neighborhoods that are in Spanish or related to Spanish culture. Students will use digital cameras to document these items. Students will have one week to complete their checklist and add to it any other items they might find. Students will then compile their digital photos into a powerpoint to show what items they found from their checklist. Students will then move their powerpoint slides into Windows Moviemaker and add narration to their slides. Students will be required to give a description of the item in Spanish and tell why they think that item is now available in Spanish. Students will share their movies with the class. Students will complete a graphic organizer on cause & effect of the increase in the Spanish speaking population. The class will have a culminating discussion on how the increase in the Hispanic population has effected business, advertising, and products.
