Keywords: camera, efolio, elementary
Subject(s): Technology
Grades 3 through 4
School: Wellford Elementary School, Wellford, SC
Planned By: Jennifer Padgett
Original Author: Jennifer Padgett, Wellford
Grade: 3-4

Purpose: To create an efolio for students that spans the school year.

Description: Students will take digital pictures of one chosen piece of work at least once a month. These digital photos will be imported into Photostory to create a slide show. Students will narrate each piece of work in Photostory. Students will burn these slide shows to a DVD.

Activity Procedure: Each month students will choose at least one piece of work to capture digitally and save to create an efolio at the end of the year. Work samples may include poems, projects, lab experiments, writing samples, journal entries, assessments, or pictures of students working with manipulatives. Students will take a picture of their chosen work, unless they want a picture of them doing the lab experiment or working with manipulatives the teacher or another student would then take the picture. All pictures will be saved on a jump drive until the end of the year. Two students will share one camera and flashdrive. During the last two weeks of school, students will import their pictures into Photostory, narrate each piece of work telling why they chose that particular sample to be included in their efolio, and burn it to a DVD. Students will be allowed to keep their DVDs.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
These cameras will also be used for scavenger hunts (finding angles, polygons, types of clouds) around the school. They will also be used to maintain a classroom blog. Classroom happenings will be captured on camera and posted to our classroom blog.
