Objectives:
*Students will create podcasts using poetry.
*Students will become more fluent readers.
*Students will become more familiar with common sight words.

Time Frame: Ongoing throughout the year.

Lesson:
* Students will be introduced to a new poem each week.
* Throughout the week, they will practice reading their poem as a class, in small groups, individually, etc.
* The teacher will point out sight words, blends, word families, etc. to teach those skills.
* At the end of the week one or more children will be asked to make a podcast of themselves reading the poem aloud.
* Students will keep all of their poems in a folder as a collections of the years poetry. They will pull it out at different times to review poems already learned.










* The podcast will be posted on a website for parents and other students to listen to.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
Poems can be on any subject area.
Follow-Up
Students will write and read their own poetry.
