The teacher will take the students on a scavenger hunt through out the school building in search of people, rooms, equipment and everyday things that begin with each letter of the alphabet. The hunt may occur over a series of several days until all the letters have something represented. (Parents and teachers may want to bring some special items to school to help with letters for which an item to photograph may be difficult to find.) When they find these items the students will take turns using a point and shoot camera to record their findings.

The teacher will demonstrate to the students how the photographs are taken from the camera to the computer modeling in the process the correct names of all of the equipment used. The downloaded photographs will be projected onto a Smart Board where as a class students will recall the name of and describe the items in the photograph. The teacher, aide or parent volunteer will transcribe the discussion to writing on the Smart Board. This activity could be done all at once in a matter of a few days or one photo a week until the end of the year.

The resulting project, a booklet or a slide show, could be given to each student to help them review the alphabet and as a memory of a special year.
Follow-Up
Student could also share the final project with the preschoolers who will be the new students at the school in the following school year.
