Subject(s): History
Grades 5 through 7
School: Ivy Bound Academy, Sherman Oaks, CA
Planned By: Jessica Kiang
Original Author: Jessica Kiang, Sherman Oaks
Students will use Microsoft Word to create a timeline. To create a timeline on Word, they should follow the steps:
1) file >page set > paper tab> paper size > custom size.
2) change paper size to width: 6" and length: 17"
3) file > page set up > margins >narrow settings
4) file > page set up > layout > borders > page border > box
5) view > header and footer
6) right justify your text, insert a proper heading: name, date, and period
7) center text and type your title: The Origins of Human Development (font size 26)
8) create a lime going horizontally across the width of the paper under the title
9) create a line going vertically across the length of the paper. Leave a small space at the top and bottom because you are going to insert text
10) Create 12 long lines and 32 short horizontal lines. Don't make them too long because in the spase area you will be inserting text.
11) Press the textbox button and on top of the timeline insert 5 million B.C. and at the bottom insert 350,000 B.C. Label long lines in order.
12) Insert pictures where necessary.

This information will be required on the timeline:
• A proper heading
• Title
• Dates
• Content/facts
• Graphics
Content/facts: colored bars represent “humanoid development”. These development periods include Australopithecine, Homo habilis, Homo erectus, Homo sapiens.
Graphics: Must have at least 10 pictures that represent the content.
Create a key to represent and define what each bar means
