Student Objectives: Students will: Learn how to use a digital camera practice writing complete sentences using adjectives and correct grammar, punctuation, spelling and capitalization learn how to use yearbook software transition throughout the school and take pictures work cooperatively with non-disabled peers choosing pictures and phrases to be entered into yearbook ask for help and accept correction of any work before submitting it into yearbook software
Procedure:
Some think working with students with disabilities is difficult, but it's a pleasure to teach students what they don't know so that they have a better understanding. With the help of some other teachers and students with non-disabilities, we will work together to teach our students how to use digital cameras, work together in teams, and to enter information in the yearbook software. First, students will learn how to use digital cameras. They will be shown how to use a camera, what the important functions of a camera are, and then will be provided with practice of operating a camera. After students are comfortable with using a digital camera, they will be allowed to check a camera out so that they can take pictures throughout the school day and at school functions such as at an awards assembly and field day. After students take and develop pictures, they will work in teams sorting and describing what they see. They will write what they see in their composition notebooks and conference with me so that we make the necessary corrections. WHen students finish editing words, phrases or sentences in their composition notebooks, they will be taught how to transfer the pictures from the digital camera into the yearbook software. They will be guided on how to use the yearbook software so that the pages they create are acceptable to their peers. Teachers and students will work with picture and wording until two weeks before the deadline to submit information. Teachers and students will meet with the contact person of developing our yearbook for final approval. Overall, students will learn how to appreciate themselves and each other and will learn how to effectively use technology. |

Comments |
This opportunity will be great for my students, for they are not included in many (if any at all) school activities unless I fight for them. I would like for them to experience this opportunity and be able to say they have accomplished something (outside of the academic setting) before they leave the elementary setting on their own. |
Cross-Curriculum Ideas |
Students will learn how to integrate language arts, reading, observation and technology to create a very awesome yearbook for their peers and teachers. |
Follow-Up |
STudents will complete a survey and come up with ideas to improve the yearbook committee. Students and third and fourth grade will work with the yearbook staff during the upcoming school year. |
