I am Water by Jean Marzollo, illustrated by Judith Moffatt, Scholastic Press, New York, NY, 1996.
Water,Water Everywhere by Mark J. Rauzon and Cynthia Overbeck Bix, A Sierra Club Book, San Francisco, CA, 1993

1. Read a picture book about water and its importance to Earth and life.
2. Discuss our need for water and why it is important to plants, animals, and people.
3. Brainstorm different uses of water and create a class chart.
4. Distribute cameras to students and take a water hunt around your school. Find different sources of water and discuss what we use the water for (e.g. water in a mop bucket is used to clean, water in the fire hydrant is for putting out fires, a sprinkler is to water the grass, ice in the cooler is for cooling our drinks etc.).
5. In the computer lab download pictures into the student’s file.
6. In Word copy and paste pictures and type a sentence. We use water for____.
7. In Word create a cover page. Students create a title and use clip art for cover picture.
8. Bind into book. Put books in classroom library to read.
9. Students can also create a Power Point presentation. On each slide, download a picture and type the sentence: We use water for ______. Students can record their voices to explain where we find the water and how we use it.
10. Share and enjoy with classmates, parents, and community!
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
