Planned By: Karen Dernulc
Original Author: Karen Dernulc, Minooka
During the school year, I will take pictures of my students during hands-on learning lessons, center activites, etc. For example, I will take pictures of the students during our Gingerbread Man unit in December. Here the students will meet the Gingerbread Man stuffed animal-like figure after reading the story of the Gingerbread Man. The students picture will be taken so each student can create their own version of the GBMan as a "Wanted" poster for the soon to be missing GBMan, like in the story!

I will take pictures of the students during these curriculum activities:
Reading
Math
Story Time/Story Comprehension
Writing
Center Activites which are: math center
listening center
reading center
writing center
computer center

A few examples, I will take their picture retelling the story of the GBMan with the use of a flannelboard and flannel story props.

At the reading center with myself, the classroom teacher, my small group of children will read sentences about the GBMan that rhyme.

Pictures will be printed, add text to explain activities, put pictures in sheet protectors, then into binders to send home daily to share with parents. Parents can add comments to the comment page for additional feedback.

Since most of our work is "hands-on" and engaged, the parents do not see a lot of worksheets coming home. Now the parents can see what their child does during the day and the child feels excited to bring the picture book home to explain the activities, his or her classmates and friends, etc.
Comments
I love my Olympus camera that I use in my classroom now. However this camera is suppose to stay at home for my home use. I do not have a camera for school.
