Objective: Students will create an informational bulletin board about ways to save the environment one person at a time.
Instructional Strategies:
Day 1: Send home informational letter about the project.
Introduce concepts of conservation and the 3 R's-Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.
Day 2: Students will be in pairs and chose one way they could help the environment. They will research on the internet in the computer lab to find factual information about how their topic helps the environment. They will create a paragraph (3-5 sentences) about how to perform their task which will help the environment. This will be typed up using our Alphasmarts and printed out.
Day 3: Heading out in teams of two, the students will find a place on campus where they can best "reinact" their act. They will photograph their example and non-example of their task. (For example, a child may take a picture of their partner brushing teeth while the water is running and then switch and the other partner will take a picture of them brushing their teeth with the water off)
Day 4: Pictures and paragraphs will be paired up on colorful paper and posted on our bulletin board to display for Earth Day.
Materials: Word Processor (Alphasmarts), Digital SLR, Printer, Ink, Paper, Posterboard, Computer lab for internet research, clipboards, pencil |
