Digital Math Scavenger Hunt Page Views: 566
|
Students will be given a specific list of objects to find. All of the objects have a connection to Mathematics. The fifth grade curriculum focuses on fractions and decimals. Therefore, students will be required to find fractions and decimals in other places besides a school setting. Also, basic math knowledge, such as locating a dozen of something or a percentage discount on a coupon, will be part of the hunt. Students can use catalogues, newspapers, the internet and real life photographs to fulfill the requirements of the scavenger hunt. Once the student has found all the listed items, and maybe one or two bonus items, he/she will compile all the findings into one project. The finished project will count as a major grade for the first trimester. The items on the list can be adjusted to accomodate different grade levels. |

Cross-Curriculum Ideas |
Students can keep a journal describing what they did during a scavenger hunt. If you want to include science or social studies items on the list, that can be done as well. |
