Keywords: word choice, pictures
Subject(s): Spelling, English/Language Arts, Photography, Reading, Writing, Technology, Art, Grammar, Journalism
Grades 7 through 12
School: West Junior High School, Oklahoma City, OK
Planned By: Alison Goodnight
Original Author: Alison Goodnight, Oklahoma City
Supplies:
Digitial camera (preferred)
Any/all materials necessary for student to show off personal style, hobby or dream visually as long as school appropriate

Other needs:
Access to computer lab with software for uploading/downloading photos

Objectives:
Students will use specific word choice to "advertise" their personal interests.
Students will purposely select only three words in sentence form that describe who they are or what they do/want to do. For example: "Music consumes me."
Students will creatively show the meaning of the three-worded message visually. For example: A black and white shot of a student seen laying in a pile of sheet music with the three words "Music consumes me" written her forehead in red.
Students will capture the meaning with the three-worded message in a picture (preferably on a digital camera).
Students will use all creativity necessary to construct the message visually.
Students will be challenged to enhance their creativity, personal expression and critical analysis of visual messages.
Students will integrate the use of technology in the classroom.
Students will assess each other's visual messages as well.

Assessment:
Will be informal as it is difficult to grade personal art. Students will be expected to use only three words, no more, no less. No other words of any kind may be present in the picture. Creativity must be present to some degree at the discretion of the teacher. Photos will be featured in the school newspaper and/or yearbook.
