Leaf Man, Classifying living and nonliving things

After reading Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert, students will understand how an author using natural products to create art and a story line. Students will go on an outdoor hike around the school campus to investigate all the different living and nonliving resources nearby. With each group using a digital camera the children will find more than just jotting items down on a chart. The students will then bring back all their images and combine images on a photoshop program to create thier own leaf man, rock man, bug man, etc. Once each group has illustrated thier fictional character they will copy thier image for each group in the class. Each group will need to sort the pictures and come up with a story line of thier own and create an action packed story. After writing thier story they will create a multimedia presentation in which they record their voices and video the images and play for the entire class to enjoy. Surprising all thei stories sound very different as the children take a different direction.
