Story Telling through Photography

Do Now: Students will be given an image from the book, "The Myteries of Harris Burrdick" by Chris Van Alsburg and it's corresponding line. Students will have 3 minutes to write what they think the story is behind the image and the opening line.

AIMS: Students will be able to discuss details of an image and then create a basic story line from that image.
Students will be able to create a first draft of a story from an image of their choice.

Agenda:
1. Do Now!
2. Introduction of key vocabulary words: imagery, shadows, foreground, background, composition, characters, figures
3. Students will share out their stories ideas with group members.
4. Teacher lead discuss of image and composition of the image. Additional photographs will be viewed and discussed.
5. Teacher will model use of a sense based graphic organizer, using inspiration, to help student organize and create their story, as well as giving them support needed for detailed descriptive writing.
6.Students will then be given a variety of shadow photographs and will be asked to tell a story about that photograph in small groups. Each group will have one member retell their story to the whole class.
7. Students will then create first draft of individual stories based on a photograph of their choice.

Homework:
Bring in a photographic that has meaning for you, be prepared to tell the story behind the photo.
