Crestridge Magnet is an International Global Studies Magnet in Omaha, Nebraska, thus, the name Global Impact.

Objectives:

The Learner Will:

* Research animal charachteristics and behaviors from
countries studied in Social Studies--Argentina,
Australia, and China.

* Learn basic photography skills and apply them on
various field trips.

* Create, produce a documentary movie to include
digital photos and videos of visits to Omaha's
Henry Doorly Zoo and various cultural monuments.

* Use communication technology such as web cameras,
podcasting,video-casting, i-chats, emails, to
communicate and share projects with global penpals.

Lessons:

* Students will use the Internet to research animals
from Argentina, Australia, and China.

* Students will prepare brief powerpoints to display
research.

* Students will learn how to handle digital cameras,
video cameras and practice being Roving Reporters
reporting classroom news posted to the school's or
teacher's homepage through podcasting, video-casting.

* Students will visit Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and
some of Omaha's cultural monuments and continue
their Roving Reporter skills to create the Global
Impact Project.

* Students will use eith i-movie or movie-maker to
produce documentary which will be posted to web-
page for penpals to view.

* Hopefully penpal school will exchange their own
project.
Comments
My highability groups are anywhere from 8-12 students. This project fits into the Gifted framework of Research, Habits of the Mind--Innovations, Thinking flexibly and interdependently.
Materials: Point and Shoot, Digital SLR, Mobile Labs, Mind Mapping, Podcasting, Video Editing, English and Language Arts, Camera Bags, xD Memory Cards, Digital Voice Recorders, Flash/USB Drives, Batteries
Other Items: 10 Ipods--at least 30G, $249 each, total of $2490.00
