Survey questions: How tall are you in inches? What color is your hair? What color are your eyes? How much do you weigh in pounds? Are you male or female?

Students will collate the data. Students will use spreadsheets to input data and create graphs for each question. Create a histogram for the height and weight category. Create a pie chart for eye and hair color. Create a bar graph for male/female question.

Students may use graphing calculators to input the data and generate graphs for each category.

After the "average" student is determined by the data collected, students will take photographs of all students who meet the qualifications for the "average" student.

Students will use graphing calculators to determine the mean, median and mode for the height and weight category questions.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
Students can write descriptions of the "average" student in English classes and analyze graphs in science classes.
Follow-Up
Students can find the average 6th, 7th and 8th grade student in the middle school by giving the survey questions to all students in the middle school.
