COMPUTER APPLICATIONS

STUDENT PORTFOLIOS

Mr. Barney

These portfolios will be unique documents. Do each project as we cover the material. The quality of your portfolio is what counts. The grading will be done according to how well you “think out” your documents. It will be possible to get bonus points on your projects for really outstanding efforts.

All projects must have a TITLE PAGE which displays the portfolio number, the portfolio title, your name, Computer Applications, and the date submitted.

Because these portfolios cannot be redone, I will be happy to review them with you before you turn them in.

All projects must be submitted to me on time and in a 2 pocket folder. NO EXCEPTIONS

PORTFOLIO 1, COMMUNICATION
Guidelines for Communication Unit
50 Points

Always start with your problem statement. “I am writing a letter to IBM, Dell or Gateway about ordering a new computer. List the items that you want to purchase as the bulleted list

And then state your solution statement. “I will create a letter, envelope, and label. I will use the Word program to create these three documents.”

Required elements:

Center the letter on the page
Bulleted items in your letter
Significant content (at least 100 words that make sense)
Envelope (can be printed on plain paper but draw out a #10 envelope size)
Label (can be printed on plain paper)

Place the following in a folder:

1. Cover Page
2. Turn in a printout of portfolio 1

PORTFOLIO 2, TRIFOLD BROCHURE
Guidelines for Trifold Brochure
50 Points

Your report must be at least 2 full pages in length. Since this is a classroom assignment and will not be used again, you may copy and paste text from the Internet for use in the project. I am interested in your document setup not your writing style. Here are some examples of the types of brochures you can create. A favorite vacation resort, restaurant with menu included, sports team, or your favorite college.

Required elements:

2 full pages with 3 columns on each
Landscape orientation
Page numbering
A numbered or bulleted list
2 graphics that you insert from a Web Page on each page
Text that you copy from a Web Page and set up correctly

Place the following in a folder:

1. Cover Page
2. Turn in printouts of your portfolio

PORTFOLIO 3, FLYER
Guidelines for Flyer
100 Points

You are to prepare a 1 page flyer to announce a half-day training session for your “company.” Here are some examples. Those of you who want to enter in the medical field might conduct a training session on proper procedures for drawing blood. Those of you who want to enter into Multimedia concentration might conduct a training session on some elements of designing documents. Your flyer must have some elements of what you will do in the training session. The date will be March 1, 2007.

Specific elements which must be included are:

Explanation of your training session
Picture of you
Horizontal line
Text Art
Schedule and times and dates
A return form that they can fill in and send back to you
Right aligned text
A border around the page
Watermark
Bullets
2 different fonts
Extra elements used correctly will give you bonus points

Place the following in a folder:

1. Cover Page
2. Turn in printouts of your portfolio
