Keywords: Writing
Subject(s): English/Language Arts, Art, Technology, Journalism, Photography
Grades 1 through 6
School: Leola Elementary School, Leola, PA
Planned By: Kathryn Schneider
Original Author: Kathryn Schneider, Leola
1. Students would be given a broad topic as to what they are going to be writing about. For example, they could be writing a personal narrative.
2. They will be told in a weeks notice and given the task of figuring out the four main topics that will go into their four square.
3. Students at this point would have an opportunity to use a camera to take pictures of themselves or objects that represent what they are going to be writing about. These photographs would go right onto their four square sheet.
4. From these photos and the organization of the four square sheet, students will then have to brainstorm even further as to what they will say that goes with their picture/topic.
5. Students will create their personal narrative.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
You could also use this to then post pictures and have students write journal entries about what is going on in the photograph.
Materials: Point and Shoot, Camera Bags
