Publice Service Announcements about Student Disabilities Page Views: 242

Students have been learning about their own disabilites. Students researched information about their disabilies in groups of 3 and presented it to the class on the overhead projector. Students are taught what to include in a public service announcement (entertaining and informational) and shown examples of PSA's. Students are then taught how to use digital video cameras and about the three roles for using a camera to create a public service announcement. The three roles are talent, producer, and camera person. The students can take turns with these roles through out the production. They are given a paper copy of a storyboard and asked to write down what they want to include for their PSA. Then they start to use the video cameras to tape the parts included on their storyboard. Once the students have video taped all of the information from their storyboard they are taken to the computer lab and taught how to use Windows Movie Maker and how to edit their video clips. The final product is a public service announcement about their disabilities. We had a movie premiere and invited all of the staff and some classes to come to see the PSA's. This was a wonderful lesson for my students to help them better understand their disabilities and to share with others how they feel about having a disability. |
