Keywords: photography, rocks and minerals
Subject(s): English/Language Arts, Science, Photography
Grades 7 through 8
School: Dover Air Force Base Mid Sch, Dover, DE
Planned By: Cox
Original Author: Cox, Dover
After completing the unit on rocks and minerals, students will be asked to choose one to complete further research. They will fill out a sheet that asks for particular characteristics, e.g. hardness or luster. Once they have found where the rock is located, how it is formed, and other characteristics, they will create a character/personality for the rock. Students will actually create the character using their creativity. Then a photo will be taken much like you see in on line dating services. They will then compose a "personal ad" to try to find a date for the rock or mineral infusing the research they completed. For example I am Danny Diamond and I have a "hard" time finding a mineral that can live up to my tough standards.......

Students will take pictures of the rock/mineral characters and they will be placed in a book titled: Rock and Mineral Book of Singles.

Further, a webpage can be created for students to post the photos and the text that is written
