Students will read Sandra Cisnero's "House on Mango" street and discuss the social commentary the author is making with the various stories. Students will discuss symbolism used by the author to enhance her story and capture the readers interest.

During and after reading the story, the students will use a digital camera to record images in their own neighborhoods that make a social commentary or statement. The students will then use those images to write a personal narrative that addresses problems within their own communities. Finally, the students will create a video of their images and record their stories orally.

The images, stories and video will be complied into a class anthology to be displayed in the school library, and possibly in the local branch of the county library system.

Comments
Each of our students is already assigned his/her own laptop, so our students are used to having technology integrated into the curriculum. The one piece of technology we are missing is digital cameras!
