In teaching the alphabet to my kindergarten students, I am always looking for ways to connect this to real-life.

One way that we study the letters and the letter sounds is through the students' names. As we work on a letter, we talk about everyone in the classroom who has a name that begins with that letter. What is more "real-life" than the kids themselves?

As we study a letter, I will have some kids lie on the ground, floor, etc. to form the letter with their bodies. I will take an aerial digital photo of the letter and put them into a power point slide show to help the kids with letter and sound recognition.

Follow-Up
We can also use these pictures to make a class book that would be available in our classroom library for the kids to enjoy daily.

We could also place them on our class website at teacherweb.com.
