After learning about the 6 main animals groups in class (Mammals, Reptiles, Amphibians, Insects, Fish, Birds) and studying the life cycles of various animals within those groups, students will take a field trip to the NC Zoo.
At the zoo, kids will use their cameras to take pictures of animals they find that belong to the specific animal group that they have been assigned. Voice recorders can be used by students to record and remember specific details about that animal such as; habitat, county of origin, body coverings, etc.
At the Aviary students all students will photograph the poison dart frogs and the diagrams of their life cycle. Voice recorders are used to note specific details about the frogs.
At the Streamside exhibit, students will photograph the life cycle diagrams of the fish and insects that are on display, again using voice recorders to note details of the animals and their habitats.
After the trip, the pictures will be used to create student web pages to be attached to the teacher's main classroom page. The pages will highlight the animals belonging to specific groups and their life cycles; if available.
