Zoology:
Students in our zoology classes have been given the task to catalogue endemic and derelic animal species in our area. Since we live on coastal Eastern/Central florida, the animals here are extremely diverse and unique. Students have been divided up into teams and paired with their animals of interest. The data will be collected and reported to our U.S. Forestry Service as well as having an on-line digital catalogue at our school available to all classes and students.
Digital cameras will help our student teams document their animals. Each team will photograph their reported animal and describe the environment this animal lives in. Special attention will be paid to endangered or threatened animals.
Biology: Students will use digital cameras to catologue experiments completed in class. Students will download these pictures to make formal lab reports by generating "real" pictures of their experiments.
Cross Curriculum and the ASI: Our school is broken into several specialized sections called academies. The Academy of Science Inquiry (ASI) will be taking a variety of field trips to study numerous scientific events. Students can use their digital cameras to document the observations they make during the field trips. Students would then return to the school and make a yearbook of the events the ASI has experienced for that year. |
