step 1: introduce the different types of advertising: newspaper, magazine, TV, billboards, clothing etc.

Step 2: ask students to name commericals they have seen that they like and dislike. (explain what they think makes a good or bad commercial)

Step 3: Ask students why people advertise. (brainstorm)

Step 4: Students are then formed into groups and asked to select a product (from a given list) to create an ad for.

Step 5: Using digital cameras, computer graphics, and digital video cameras the students can create a advertisement to share with the class. This enables the students to get a first hand look at what they should be aware of when making informed purchasing decisions.
