Keywords: powerpoint, presentation, science, scavenger hunt
Subject(s): Art, Technology, Photography, Science
Grades 6 through 8
School: Mt Vernon Middle School, Mount Vernon, OR
Planned By: Lorie Croghan
Original Author: Didgette McCracken, Mount Vernon
Students will be given a list of items to find on the school grounds.
For Science they find: a deciduos tree, an insect, an aquifer, a sedimentary rock, a mammal, a star, a form of sugar.(change objects for any subject.)

With their list students work in pairs and take the camera and document the items they find in the "real world". After retriving all objects students will download the information into a powerpoint activity to then present to the class. Each object found will be justified with reasoning and explained why it fits the description.

This often takes a week to complete. One day or 1.5 days for the collection of data and then the editing and compiliation takes 2 days. Depending on class size and grouping there is a day or two of presenting.
Comments
This is an excellent opportunity to have students out of the classroom and learning together in a fun environment.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
This can easily be transitioned to any subject. The idea is to get kids out of the classroom and learn! Use the school and community surrounding your school.
