Parent Functions in the School Page Views: 3489
|
Students will go around the school and take pictures of an item that has a shape of one of the parent functions that we have learned about this year. After an item is found and a picture is taken, the students will place the picture into a word document, draw in x and y axes, and find the equation that matches the picture. |

Comments |
This activity is designed for a Math 1 or Math 2 Class that has been taught the parent functions and transformations of those parent functions. The students will need to be able to identify parent functions as well as write equations of transformed parent functions. |
Cross-Curriculum Ideas |
Parabolas are found everywhere. Art-designs and structure of arches. Science-dealing with movement of an object. |
Follow-Up |
If time allows, you can have the students find an example of EVERY parent function to make this a more thorough activity. |
