Activity #1 Stature, Weight and BMI Percentiles.
Students will: 1) Access and print age and gender appropriate clinical growth charts from the Center for Disease Control website (CDC) in English or Spanish. 2) Obtain their height and weight measurements from the school nurse 3) Record the data on their personal clinical growth chart 4) Calculate their BMI (Body Mass Index) 5) Interpret plotted measurements

Activity #2 Excel Spreadsheet
Students will: 1) Create a spreadsheet to input their statistics: age, birth date, stature, weight, BMI, their parents' age, weight and height 2) Make a simple prediction of what their adult height and weight may be.

Activity #3 Monitor Heart.
Students will 1) access and view an online video of youth exercise program 2) use a stethoscope to listen and monitor heart beat 3) use fingertips to feel pulse 3) Calculate target heart rate during exercise 4) Record carotid artery and radial artery 5) Record pulse for 3 days 6) create pulse graph 7) summarize results

Activity #4 Fitness Quest
Students will 1) learn the characteristics of a) cardio respiratory fitness b) flexibility c) muscular strength d) endurance 2) Design a "Fitness Quest" sheet 3) perform the listed fitness activities 4) identify fitness component measured by each activity 5) complete the fitness quest

Activity #5 Video Production and Slide Presentation
Students will form teams to: 1) use the digital camera to capture activities 2) use camcorder to video tape activities 3) create a slide presentation 4) create a simple movie

This project was a lot of fun and a great learning experience due in large part by the contributions and cooperation of the school nurse and PE teacher.
