Established Goals:
Analyze the anatomy, physiology and basic pathophysiology of the cardiovascular system
Apply knowledge in performance of evaluating, monitoring, and treatment of patients

Performance Task: GRASP

Goal: Students will create a Flip Video presentation that demonstrates their ability to communicate knowledge of the cardiovascular system by explaining a specific disease/disorder through use of a modeling process.

Role: Student will assume the role of a medical intern in a cardiovascular rotation.

Audience: Students will communicate a prognosis to a newly diagnosed patient. The focus is to communicate through modeling cardiovascular disorder and treatment options for a newly diagnosed patient.

Situation: The interns will be assigned the following cases for review and communication purposes:
A sixty year old African-American male diagnosed with hardening of the arteries (artherosclerosis)
An eleven year old Asian female diagnosed with an enlarged heart (cardiomegaly)
A twenty year old Caucasian male diagnosed with a brain bleed (cerebral hemorrhage) who is unable to speak as a result of the disorder.
A thirty year old Native American female diagnosed with heart attack (myocardial infarction)

Product: Students will create video segments using a Flip Video camera to self and peer assess their ability to understand and communicate aspects of anatomy and pathophysiology of specific diseases/disorders of the cardiovascular system.

Day 1
Engagement Activity: Introduce Performance Task

Day 2
Begin each day with discussions, readings, and key documents.
Conduct a medical case review

Day 3
Teach research skills using MedLine and Galileo
Teach how to use a Flip Video camera

Day 4
Research conditions, trends and risk factors related to the assigned case

Day 5
Meet in groups to discuss and develop a model that can be used as a three dimensional analogy to describe the disease/disorder

Day 6
Finalize three dimensional models and rehearse video roles

Day 7
Shoot video segments and edit footage as appropriate

Day 8
Peer review session to critique videos through self and peer evaluated commentary in preparation for the Georgia High School Health Care Symposium

Day 9
Review commentary and conduct final video edits

Day 10
Culminating presentation of Flip Video at the Georgia Health Occupations Students of America conference
