Hook: Play a video clip of a familiar video in a foreign language with subtitles. Explain to the students that they will be taking a familiar book or folktale and turn it into a movie presented in Spanish with English subtitles.
Day 1: Students will discuss in small groups a familiar story they would like to film. For younger students you could select a book in Spanish to perform, such as Polar Bear, Polar Bear by Eric Carle. Encourage student discussion about the meaning of the story. Have students translate the story into English to add as subtitles.
Day 2: Have students select parts to perform in the story. Then students can design and create their costumes/ masks that represent the characters they will be performing. Students will begin to practice their lines.
Day 3: Students are given a Flip camera and allowed 10 minutes to free film their classroom. They will then use a computer to create a movie with their free filmed footage and Windows Moviemaker. They will spend the day adding subtitles to their practice video.
Day 4: Students will practice their lines. When the students are ready to record, they will use their Flip camera.
Day 5: Have students add subtitles to their video. Allow students to share their projects with younger students at the school. |

The project encourages collaboration and integrates technology into the classroom environment. Students can post their Flip videos to the school website for sharing with parents. The activity can also be added to student digital portfolios to demonstrate student skill in collaboration and use of technology. |

Students could create math lessons explaining mathematical concepts to children in younger grades, in different languages. |

The projects can be shared at parent night used during parent conferences to demonstrate technology skills. |
