School: Hoggetowne Middle School, Gainesville, FL
Planned By: Lisa Labbe
Original Author: Lisa Labbe, Gainesville
I want to incorporate an lesson about creative photography. I will start with a Power Point presentation of photography as created by others, showing how a single photograph can tell a story, or evoke emotions.
I will show how being creative with the lighting, angle, focus, color, etc. can bring out different aspects of the subject matter.
Students will then create their own Power Point presentation about their "favorite thing." required will be 25 pictures showing many different aspects of the subject. ie: at different times of day, in candid vs posed shots, manipulating the color, focus and exposure.
Students will be encouraged to take the pictures themselves, with allowances made for those without camera or computer access at home.
They will then be given time in class to put their presentations together. Presentations will be made to the whole class.
Assessment will include: creativity of subject and photos, quality of presentation, completion requirements.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
I have been discussing a photography lesson in conjunction with the Language arts teachers too. I would present to the students a lesson on the power of a single photo, and they would use it as a writing prompt for an essay. Also with the Social studies teachers, to use a single historical photo as a basis for a research paper on that pivotal moment in time.
