Prior to this lesson, students will have spent two weeks on our unit on recycling and conservation. This lesson will be the culminating activity.

EQ: How can we persuade others to protect the environment?

Introduction: Review animal habitats the effect pollution has on those habitats. Why do we need to be sure to protect the habitats? Discuss and make a list on the board of various ways we can help protect the habitats. Ex: Turn off water when brushing teeth, recycle water bottles, reuse containers.

Task: Students will work in groups of 3. They will pick one of the specific ways we can help protect the environment and create an commercial for the morning news show. Their audience will be the students in the school. The commercial must be at least 30 seconds long and tell why everyone should do it and how they can do it in an entertaining and creative way. They will first write the script of their commercial, get approval by the teacher of what they wrote, create any props or backdrops, film and then compile the film using a movie making software on the computer to create a finished piece suitable to use on the news show.
